SUMMARY:Food and Mood - The gut-brain connection
DESCRIPTION:Women are more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease. What you eat or don’t eat\, and your lifestyle\, affect your brain health and cognition. Join me and my guest speaker\, Gillian Bogden\, to learn all about Food and Mood – The gut-brain connection. \nMany of us know the role that food can play when it comes to stress\, anxiety\, and depression\, but aren’t necessarily familiar with why and how this happens. \nAlzheimer’s disease—which affects women twice as often as it affects men—is on the rise.  It may start in our brains 30-50 years before we see any symptoms\, and food is one of the main culprits. \nJoin me\, Teresa Isabel Dias\, founder of MenopausED\, and my guest speaker Gillian Bogden\, to learn how food and lifestyle literally lay the foundation for a healthy brain\, as well as how we could potentially stop Alzheimer’s in its tracks. \nMy Guest Speaker will be Gillian Bogden. As a holistic nutritionist\, health coach\, graduate of George Brown’s Culinary Arts Program\, and founder of gb wellness\, Gillian leverages food and lifestyle to redefine healthy aging. \nHaving battled her own food issues for years\, and influenced by her work with Jack.org\, a national mental health organization for youth in Canada\, and The Stop\, a Toronto-based food community centre\, Gillian realized she could make a profound difference in people’s lives through food. \nThese experiences led her to the Institute of Holistic Nutrition\, where she focused her studies on the research behind how food and lifestyle affect mental well-being\, chronic illnesses\, energy levels\, and overall health. \nGillian develops targeted one-on-one nutritional strategies for women in their prime (40’s\, 50’s and 60’s)\, looking to take their health to the next level. Her work has recently expanded to include Wellness at Work corporate presentations and gb wellness Walk & Talk. \nWhen not with clients\, you will find Gillian either in her kitchen\, walking the Toronto ravines\, or enjoying a meal with family and friends. \nThis is an ONLINE event via Zoom. Upon registration you will receive by email a Zoom link to join us. A reminder with the Zoom link will also be emailed to you on the day of the event. \nLearn more about this event “Food and Mood – The gut-brain connection” and register here. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n  \nIf you would like to attend free then become a WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network member. By joining now you can attend ALL my live webinars FREE\, and you’ll be able to watch my past recorded webinars and many other benefits. \nLearn more and become a WHIM Network member here .

SUMMARY:What you should know about perimenopause
DESCRIPTION:On November 2 I’ll be a guest speaker for my friend Rebeka Ly\, who together with her husband founded Addo Living\, talking about “What you should know about perimenopause but no one told you before”. \nEven though all women go through menopause most aren’t aware of what that entails and what to expect from this phase of life. Many women feel alone and isolated during the menopause transition. Each of us goes through menopause in our own way but we share many common experiences. \nDid you know: \n\n8 in 10 women experience hot flashes\n5 in 10 women experience vaginal dryness and pain with sex\n1 in 4 women contemplate quitting their jobs because of night sweats\, difficulty sleeping\, irritability\, anxiety\, or problems with concentration and memory.\n\nEven self-esteem and self-confidence can be negatively affected during the hormonal changes of midlife. \nYou are not alone! For every challenge that perimenopause poses there’s a solution.\nJoin us and learn what you should know about perimenopause: the menopause stages\, most common physical\, cognitive\, and emotional symptoms and most importantly\, how to make your (peri)menopause easier. \nLearn more and register here. After registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. \n\nAre you… \n\nOver 40?\nCommitted to your health and wellbeing?\nInterested in learning more about your body and mind?\nReady to put yourself at the top of the list and look after yourself?\n\nThen you should consider becoming a member of the WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network.\nThe purpose of the WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network is to educate women about their health and wellbeing\, the life-affirming changes of midlife\, and healthy aging.  It’s the culmination of my 20+ years of experience working in women’s health with a focus on menopause. \nI help women cut through the clutter\, the myths\, and the folklore.  By providing truthful\, trusted advice\, I educate women and equip them to be their own health advocates. \nYou shouldn’t just survive the menopause transition\, you should thrive through it! \nCome put yourself first and celebrate your journey with our growing community.  Not yet a member? SUMMARY:Management of induced menopause in breast cancer survivors
DESCRIPTION:Many women with breast cancer suffer induced menopause due to certain treatments like chemotherapy\, radiation\, and medications used to treat and prevent breast cancer (tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors) that damage the ovaries and decrease estrogen levels at an earlier age. Women who undergo a hysterectomy with removal of the ovaries are put into induced menopause literally overnight. \nThe symptoms of induced menopause are usually severe\, long-lasting\, and life-altering. Symptoms can negatively affect your quality of life\, your romantic life\, and cause brain fog that makes you contemplate quitting your job.\nTo make things worse\, the medical community—e.g. physicians\, OB/GYNs\, nurses\, and counsellors—aren’t educated and well-versed in menopause so they fail to raise awareness\, provide education\, and support you. \nYou shouldn’t and you don’t have to suffer alone. There’s help! I can help.\nI know how difficult it is for women who survived cancer (or surgically had their ovaries removed) to live their lives in the throes of induced menopause.  I’ve volunteered at Gilda’s Club Greater Toronto\, I’ve witnessed women struggle with menopause symptoms\, and I was asked to offer education and support. \nIf you are a breast cancer survivor or had your ovaries removed then this workshop will help you manage the unwanted and unexpected consequences of your treatment on your hormones. We can improve your quality of life\, relationships\, and work.\nIn this online workshop you’ll: \n\nunderstand how cancer treatment(s)\, to cure and prevent cancer\, affect your ovaries and your hormones\nlearn how this sudden hormonal change is affecting you physically\, mentally\, and emotionally\nget tips to deal with the changes and challenges you are facing after induced menopause.\n\nWe’ll also talk about: \n\nHow lack of estrogen affects the vagina\, vulva\, and sexual function\nManagement of vaginal dryness and pain with sex\nHow to increase your sex drive and feel sexy again!\n\nREGISTER HERE \nIf you would like to attend free then become a WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network member. By joining now you’ll get a full 2021 membership plus the rest of 2020 FREE (so you can attend ALL my webinars FREE)\, and you’ll be able to watch my past webinars on my Vimeo channel\, along with many other benefits. \nLearn more and become a WHIM Network member here.

SUMMARY:Brain Food by Dr Lisa Mosconi - WHIM Network Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Many women fear they have dementia when they start forgetting words and their kid’s names during the menopause transition.  That’s why I chose Brain Food by Dr Lisa Mosconi for the September WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network book club. \nDr. Lisa Mosconi is a neuroscientist researching how low levels of estrogen in menopause affect women’s brain and how it relates to dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease. \nBrain Food by Dr Lisa Mosconi is available from the Toronto Public Library and Indigo. Join me to discuss a wealth of information about brain health and how to keep your brain healthy to minimize the risk of cognitive diseases like dementia and Alzheimer’s. \nThe “whatyoumaycallit” phase is usually worst during perimenopause\, the years leading up to menopause (the last period)\, and usually improves in postmenopause. For most women\, knowing this is part of the hormonal changes of midlife and not a life-long sentence makes it easier to accept and live through. But just because it’s an expected phase let’s not be complacent\, let’s make sure you know what to do to optimize your brain function and health. \nWhat you eat is important for brain health — that’s why I chose Brain Food by Dr Lisa Mosconi. \nLearn more and register for this event here. \nAll WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network members attend FREE\, but everyone is welcome to attend this event. \nNot yet a member of the WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network?  Are you… \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOver 40?\nCommitted to your health and wellbeing?\nInterested in learning more about your body and mind?\nReady to put yourself at the top of the list and look after yourself?\n\nThe purpose of the WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network is to educate women about their health and wellbeing\, the life-affirming changes of midlife\, and healthy aging.  It’s the culmination of my 20+ years of experience working in women’s health with a focus on menopause. \nI help women cut through the clutter\, the myths\, and the folklore.  By providing truthful\, trusted advice\, I educate women and equip them to be their own health advocates. \nCome put yourself first and celebrate your journey with our growing community.  Not yet a member? SUMMARY:What are bioidentical hormones? Are they safe?
DESCRIPTION:What are bioidentical hormones? Are they safer than other therapies? There’s no official\, standardized definition for bioidentical hormones and this causes a lot of confusion and misinformation. \nBioidentical hormones are one form of therapy for menopausal symptoms. \nMost women believe that bioidentical hormones are natural\, made from plants\, therefore safe.  But there are no hormones in the wild that can be used by women straight from the plant source. \nThis workshop will provide information about bioidentical hormone therapy (BHT) to help you make educated choices about your menopause management. \nYou will learn: \n\nThe meaning of “bioidentical”\nWhat bioidentical hormone therapy (BHT) is\nHow BHT helps menopause symptoms\nThe effectiveness and safety of BHT\nThe difference between BHT products\nNatural versus synthetic therapies\nIf BHT is appropriate for you and your menopause symptoms\nWhether BHT is approved by Health Canada of the FDA\n\n  \nTime for Q&A! \nLearn more about this event “What are bioidentical hormones? SUMMARY:Herbs for menopause challenges - what you need to know
DESCRIPTION:There are many available herbs for menopause challenges – that is\, herbs to treat symptoms of menopause. But the effectiveness and safety of these preparations varies greatly. \nWomen often ask me what “natural remedies” they should take to help (peri)menopause challenges like hot flashes\, anxiety\, difficulty sleeping\, low libido\, and others. \nThe answer is never straightforward\, easy\, or fast – it depends. \nThat’s because any substance you ingest that alters the structure or functioning of the body in some way is a drug. \nRegardless\, whether a drug is extracted from a plant or synthesized in the laboratory it has the potential to provide benefits but also adverse effects. \nIt also has the potential to interact with medical conditions and medications\, or cause allergies. Therefore treatment must be individualized because no two women are the same! \nJoin this workshop and learn about the most commonly used dietary and herbals products for the treatment of menopause symptoms\, their benefits\, risks\, contraindications\, and if they are indicated for you and your personal medical history:  Soy\, Black Cohosh\, Maca\, Omega 3-Fish Oils\, Vitex\, Sage\, Evening Primrose Oil\, and others. \nTime for Q&A! \nLearn more about this event “Herbs for menopause challenges” and register here. \n\nIf you can’t attend live and you’re a WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network member you’ll receive the recorded webinar to watch at your leisure. \nIf you’re not a WHIM Network member yet and would like to be (only $45 for the remainder of 2020!) sign up here. \nAre you… \n\nOver 40?\nCommitted to your health and wellbeing?\nInterested in learning more about your body and mind?\nReady to put yourself at the top of the list and look after yourself?\n\nThe purpose of the WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network is to educate women about their health and wellbeing\, the life-affirming changes of midlife\, and healthy aging.

SUMMARY:WHIM Network Book Club - Why We Can't Sleep: Women's New Midlife Crisis
DESCRIPTION:For our June meeting our book is Why We Can’t Sleep: Women’s New Midlife Crisis\, by Ada Calhoun\, available from the Toronto Public Library and Indigo . \nWhy We Can’t Sleep \nThe Gen Xers\, those born between 1965 and 1979\, are currently between 40 – 54 years old; there are 82 million of them in the U.S. \nSome of the older Gen Xers have gone through menopause since the average age of menopause in North American is 51\, but the majority are still in perimenopause. This generation is stressed\, has high aspirations\, and wants answers to their questions. These women are not like me and other Baby Boomers who put up with bothersome menopause without demanding education and support. Gen Xers want to know what is happening to their bodies and minds. \nExcerpts from Why We Can’t Sleep: Women’s New Midlife Crisis\, by Ada Calhoun \n“For a while\, I thought it was just Type A strivers\, but then I started hearing the same sort of thing even from my low-key friends. When I reached out to strangers for this story\, I heard the same toxic brew of fear\, anxiety and anger. \nNot to mention sweatiness and insomnia. \nAs I cooked dinner the other night\, I thought about the women I had been talking to. They’re just entering\, slogging through or just leaving their 40s. They belong to Generation X\, born roughly during the baby bust\, from 1965 to 1984”…. \n“But back to the sweatiness and insomnia. Ours is the first generation to have gynecologists sit us down as early as our late 30s and tell us that signs like weepiness\, hot flashes or irregular periods could indicate that we have begun “perimenopause\,” a term no one used 20 years ago but that now is everywhere. (A transgender friend of mine jokes that he’s going to take Perry Menopause as his DJ name.) \nREGISTER HERE \nRead more on Oprah.com. \nHave you had your gynecologist tell you about perimenopause? I bet not. In Canada women are only referred to a gynecologist when something is wrong with their reproductive system. \nMost family doctors aren’t educated and equipped (not to mention having the time) to start a conversation about menopause with women who aren’t complaining about it. Even women who do complain get only about 10 minutes of the doctor’s attention\, not enough time even to describe how they’re feeling! \nHence\, you need to get your information\, early\, before you start feeling fearful and anxious about the changes you’re going through in perimenopause\, from a menopause practitioner (coach\, mentor\, or specialist). Remember\, there’s help. I can help you! \nDue to COVID-19\, this month’s Book Club is ONLINE .  Learn more and register here.\nThe event will be provided through Zoom. To attend you’ll need a computer or smart device and an internet connection. Post registration\, a few hours before the event\, I will email you a link to join the webinar online. Five (5) minutes before the event just click on the link and you’ll join us. \n

SUMMARY:Joyful Retirement Introduction – for you!
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a plan for what you’ll need for a joyful retirement?  Join this workshop and learn how your savings line up with your lifestyle goals. \nLet’s talk about women’s wealth with my guest speaker Marylou Heenan. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoyful Retirement Introduction – for you!\nDid you know there is a magic number Canadians think they’ll need to save for retirement? \nBut up to 90% don’t have a formal plan to get there.\nThe lucky ones who do have a plan are not entirely sure they have the best plan of action and still have questions. Traditional advice is to work longer\, save more\, and scale down your lifestyle expectations. But it fails to recognize that one person’s “amazing retirement” vision will not be the same as someone else’s. You need to define what ‘OK’ looks like for you. \nThis webinar is an introduction to what really matters\, a joyful retirement. It’s less about how much you’ve saved\, but how your savings line up (or don’t line up) with your lifestyle goals that really matters. \nWALK AWAY WITH:\n\nYou’ll know how much you need\nYou’ll know how long your money must last\nYou’ll know the common mistakes people make with government benefits\nYou’ll understand RRSPs\, RRIFs and TFSAs\nYou’ll know a tax friendly way to withdraw your retirement income\n\nThe material is relevant to those planning their retirement\, close to retirement or already retired. It answers questions for people who want to plan for a Joyful Retirement. \nMarylou Heenan is a Speaker and Financial Educator in Toronto. She is passionate about improving Canadians’ financial literacy with a special focus on how to successfully transition into a joyful retirement and protect their hard-earned savings. Retirement cash flow management and tax minimization strategies are her specialty. Marylou helps people gather all the information they need to make the successful transition to retirement. \nThis ONLINE event is FREE.  Learn more and register here. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n  \nHave questions about women’s health?  Contact me to discuss how I can help.  There’s help\, I can help you! \n

SUMMARY:What you don’t know about vaginal and urinary health can hurt you!
DESCRIPTION:What you don’t know about vaginal and urinary health can hurt you! You and your intimate relationships too! \nAlmost 40% of women suffer from vaginal dryness\, incontinence\, discomfort during sex (and more)\, but only 4% receive treatment (easily and cheaply available\, BTW)! Do you know why? \nBecause we don’t talk about this! Why do we talk about runny noses but not about leaky bladders and dry vaginas? They are part of our body like our noses\, aren’t they? \nMany reasons keep women suffering in silence and without help: talking about urinary and vaginal health is a taboo topic\, we feel embarrassed\, it’s a very personal matter\, etc. \nIt is a very personal matter\, but if you don’t take care of yourself no one will. \nHow many times has your doctor asked you about the health of your vagina? Probably never. They should but they don’t. If we don’t talk about it we don’t get the help we need\, our symptoms don’t improve\, and our quality of life and relationships are affected! \nIf sex hurts and you’re avoiding it without telling your partner why\, imagine putting yourself in his (or her) shoes. How would you feel if it was the other way around and your partner was avoiding you with no explanation? You’d think your partner doesn’t love you anymore\, that your partner doesn’t find you attractive anymore\, or worse… Do not let like vaginal dryness ruin your relationship. There’s help and I can help you! \nYou need to attend this workshop if: \n\nSex hurts and you’re avoiding it without telling your partner why\nYou pee involuntarily every time you sneeze\, cough\, or run\nYou’re not engaging in certain activities that you used to enjoy because of urinary incontinence\nAt all times you know how far you are from the washroom because “when you’ve got to go you’ve got to go!”\n\nBTW \n\nThis workshop is especially important for women over 50 who haven’t been in a sexual relationship for a while and are ready to embark on a new one. Tissues dry up very quickly and you want to ensure your vagina is ready for it. WHAT? Yes\, if you don’t use it you lose it!\nNot only women who are sexually active need to learn about the health of their vaginas. Dryness can be bothersome even without sex.\n\nRegister here – https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/what-you-dont-know-about-vaginal-and-urinary-health-can-hurt-you-tickets-100799566216 \nLearn more on this ONLINE workshop\, FREE for WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network members but all are welcome. \nJoin online\, Monday\, May 4th\, 8 – 9 PM\, and enlighten yourself about your bladder\, vagina\, and other body parts that are in the dark. \nNote: Attendees will receive a gift from the organizer plus a 15 min FREE call to talk about their vaginal and urinary health. \nThis an ONLINE event part of the WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network\, it’s open to all and WHIM Network members attend FREE. \nThe event will be provided through Zoom. SUMMARY:WHIM Network Book Club – A Woman’s Guide to Healthy Aging
DESCRIPTION:This month: A Woman’s Guide to Healthy Aging: 7 Proven Ways to Keep You Vibrant\, Happy & Strong by Dr. Vivien Brown\nDue to COVID-19\, this month’s Book Club is ONLINE .  Learn more and register here.\n \nHere’s what the reviewer for the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) said about the book: \nA Woman’s Guide to Healthy Aging: 7 Proven Ways to Keep You Vibrant\, Happy & Strong by Vivien Brown\, MD\, provides practical tips to empower women transitioning through midlife to optimize their health and overall wellbeing. This thoughtful\, easy-to-read guide is an open\, honest conversation with a friend who just happens to be a doctor of 35 years. \nThe title says it all\, 7 Proven Ways to Keep You Vibrant\, Happy & Strong. Midlife is the period in a woman’s life often filled with complex physical and mental change. Many of the changes can be overwhelming and vary from day to day and woman to woman. It’s no wonder women have a difficult time communicating their frustration to their families let alone their healthcare providers. This book can be a resource for women navigating this natural transition. It’s broken down into 7 chapters that address the aging process in women and common misconceptions with clear\, concise language. Dr. Brown shares women’s stories and anecdotes to help drive the message home that “It’s never too early\, or too late\, to start moving in the direction of a vital and independent old age.” From how much calcium is enough\, how can I improve sleep quality\, how can I prevent heart disease and hip fracture\, to what can I do to stay healthy and vibrant; Dr. Brown tackles it all in a straightforward\, encouraging manner. \nHere a few examples of Dr. Brown’s advice: \n“…To be as beneficial as possible\, exercise should help you decrease your stress level\, not increase it. It should be something that helps you really enjoy your life.” \n“If you are wondering whether hormone therapy is safe\, the answer is a qualified yes. Initiating hormone therapy is now considered an acceptable option for relatively young women (up to age 59) and for healthy women who are bothered by menopausal symptoms if they are within 10 years of menopause.” \nI’m sure you’ll enjoy this book and learn a lot.  Learn more about this ONLINE event and register here. \nMenopause treatment is individualized so if you’re contemplating improving your menopause symptoms with hormone therapy you know that I am here to help with that decision and ensure you are a good candidate for it. Do not hesitate to book a call with me to discuss it . \nThis WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network Book Club meeting is FREE for 2020 members of the WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network. \nBut everyone is welcome! \nMembers\, use your Promotion Code to get your free ticket. SUMMARY:Vitamins\, supplements\, and minerals for women 40+
DESCRIPTION:Vitamins\, supplements\, and minerals are crucial for good health\, especially for women 40 and older. The human body requires more than 45 vitamins and minerals to maintain good health. The only vitamin that our body can make is vitamin D\, all others must be ingested. Subtle deficiencies in several vitamins have been associated with chronic diseases like atherosclerosis\, cancer\, and osteoporosis. \nBut does this mean you should take vitamins to prevent disease? \nThe vast number of advertisements and claims made by manufacturers and distributors of vitamins\, supplements\, and minerals certainly want to make you believe that you should. But you should take vitamins\, supplements\, and minerals with caution because some may cause harm. \nAnd if too much of a good thing is bad for you\, how much should you take? \nIn this workshop you will learn: \n\nWhat vitamins are essential for good health\nVitamins and supplements that are recommended for women 40+\nHow much you should take – daily recommended dietary intake\nThe benefits and risks of taking vitamins and supplements\n\n“Vitamins\, supplements\, and minerals for women 40+” is an online event for WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network 2020 members only . To attend you’ll need a computer or smart device and an internet connection. Post registration\, few days prior to the event\, I will email you a link to join the webinar online. Five (5) minutes before the event just click on the link and you’ll join us. \nAre you… \n\nOver 40?\nCommitted to your health and wellbeing?\nInterested in learning more about your body and mind?\nReady to put yourself at the top of the list and look after yourself?\nLonging to pursue happiness\, mindfulness\, fulfilment\, connection\, and purpose in midlife?\nWilling to laugh at yourself a little\, and with other women going through similar journeys?\nUp to celebrate\, encourage\, and elevate yourself and others?\n\nBeing a healthcare professional I felt compelled to start a group for women willing to care for their own health and well-being. Drawing on my expertise and many years of experience in women’s health in general—and menopause in particular—I started the WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network. \nIf you are not a 2020 member of the  WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network and would like to attend this workshop\, become a member of the WHIM Network here and then register for this event here.

SUMMARY:WHIM Network Book Club - The Slow Moon Climbs
DESCRIPTION:Announcing the first-ever meeting of the WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network Book Club!  This event is free for WHIM Network members\, and everyone is welcome. Our book is right on topic:  The Slow Moon Climbs: The Science\, History\, and Meaning of Menopause\, by Susan Mattern. \nThe Slow Moon Climbs \nHere’s what the publishers say about The Slow Moon Climbs: \nThe first comprehensive look at menopause from prehistory to today \nAre the ways we look at menopause all wrong? Historian Susan Mattern says yes\, and The Slow Moon Climbs reveals just how wrong we have been. Taking readers from the rainforests of Paraguay to the streets of Tokyo\, Mattern draws on historical\, scientific\, and cultural research to reveal how our perceptions of menopause developed from prehistory to today. For most of human history\, people had no word for menopause and did not view it as a medical condition. Rather\, in traditional foraging and agrarian societies\, it was a transition to another important life stage. This book\, then\, introduces new ways of understanding life beyond fertility. \nMattern examines the fascinating “Grandmother Hypothesis”—which argues for the importance of elders in the rearing of future generations—as well as other evolutionary theories that have generated surprising insights about menopause and the place of older people in society. She looks at agricultural communities where households relied on postreproductive women for the family’s survival. And she explores the emergence of menopause as a medical condition in the Western world. It was only around 1700 that people began to see menopause as a dangerous pathological disorder linked to upsetting symptoms that rendered women weak and vulnerable. Mattern argues that menopause was another syndrome\, like hysterical suffocation or melancholia\, that emerged or reemerged in early modern Europe in tandem with the rise of a professional medical class. \nThe Slow Moon Climbs casts menopause\, at last\, in the positive light it deserves—not only as an essential life stage\, but also as a key factor in the history of human flourishing. \nSusan P. Mattern is Distinguished Research Professor of History at the University of Georgia. Her many books include The Prince of Medicine: Galen in the Roman Empire and Rome and the Enemy. She lives on a farm in Winterville\, Georgia. \nThis WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network Book Club meeting is free for 2020 members of the WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network. \nBut everyone is welcome!\nThe location is one of my favourite local cafes (or you can join ONLINE): \nBaka Gallery Cafe \n2256 Bloor St. West \nToronto\, Ontario\, M6S 1N6 \nhttps://www.bakacafe.com/ \na short walk west from the Runnymede subway station\, and there are Green P parking lots close by. \nBoth members and non-members register here.  Members\, use your Promotion Code to get your free ticket.  If you are a member and you’ve forgotten your Promotion Code\, or to RSVP\, email me at teresa@menopaused.org. \nIf you would like to become a member of the WHIM Network\, you can learn more and register at https://menopaused.org/whim/. \nI’m really looking forward to the first WHIM (Women’s Health In Midlife) Network Book Club – The Slow Moon Climbs\, and I hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Are you the generation in the middle of the sandwich?
DESCRIPTION:Are you the generation in the middle of the sandwich?\nWe all need to maintain health and strength no matter what our age. As we find ourselves in the middle of our children and our parents (“the generation in the middle of the sandwich”)\, it is difficult to take care of ourselves while we take care of others. \nLearn how to know if you are good to go or perhaps showing some early warning signs that you need to slow down and focus more on yourself. Find out what interventions can be made to ensure your health assets are maintained and you avoid body bankruptcy. Find out how to slow down your body clock. \nYour parents and/or grandparents may be worried about losing their health or losing their independence. This may become something you worry about as well. How can we help? We need to talk about it now. There are times that health declines quickly and there are times that health declines slowly. Learn how to be prepared for either scenario and what future technologies will do to help. \n\nCarla Beaton has over 30 years’ experience as a pharmacist in the corporate pharmacy world. Her expertise is in senior care pharmacy\, provincial health system policy\, and aging. As a senior executive\, Carla works with leaders in government\, research\, academics\, and healthcare to develop and promote ways of rethinking aging to navigate the future.\nCarla holds a fellowship with the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists\, a Board Certification as a Geriatric Pharmacist\, and is a leader in the world of Long Term Care. Carla is passionate about advocating for older adults promoting a future of living independently at home and rethinking aging. \n\nLearn more and register here.\nNote: Everyone is welcome to attend. This event is free for WHIM (Women’s Health in Midlife) Network members. \nIf you are not a member of WHIM yet\, then I invite you to learn more and become part of this community of like-minded women. Are you between 40 and 65 years of age and interested in… \n\nKnowing more about your health and well-being?\nSocializing\, interacting\, and connecting with women going through similar experiences?\nDiscovering other women’s interests\, needs\, wants\, and whims?\nSupporting and being supported by other midlife women?\n\nIf so then you are a good candidate for the WHIM Network! Learn more and become a member here.
