Management of induced menopause in breast cancer survivors
October 5, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$20
Many women with breast cancer suffer induced menopause due to certain treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, and medications used to treat and prevent breast cancer (tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors) that damage the ovaries and decrease estrogen levels at an earlier age. Women who undergo a hysterectomy with removal of the ovaries are put into induced menopause literally overnight.
The symptoms of induced menopause are usually severe, long-lasting, and life-altering. Symptoms can negatively affect your quality of life, your romantic life, and cause brain fog that makes you contemplate quitting your job.
To make things worse, the medical community—e.g. physicians, OB/GYNs, nurses, and counsellors—aren’t educated and well-versed in menopause so they fail to raise awareness, provide education, and support you.
You shouldn’t and you don’t have to suffer alone. There’s help! I can help.
I know how difficult it is for women who survived cancer (or surgically had their ovaries removed) to live their lives in the throes of induced menopause. I’ve volunteered at Gilda’s Club Greater Toronto, I’ve witnessed women struggle with menopause symptoms, and I was asked to offer education and support.
If you are a breast cancer survivor or had your ovaries removed then this workshop will help you manage the unwanted and unexpected consequences of your treatment on your hormones. We can improve your quality of life, relationships, and work.
In this online workshop you’ll:
- understand how cancer treatment(s), to cure and prevent cancer, affect your ovaries and your hormones
- learn how this sudden hormonal change is affecting you physically, mentally, and emotionally
- get tips to deal with the changes and challenges you are facing after induced menopause.
We’ll also talk about:
- How lack of estrogen affects the vagina, vulva, and sexual function
- Management of vaginal dryness and pain with sex
- How to increase your sex drive and feel sexy again!
